Sustainable Design Services

We support the initiatives defined in the Architecture 2030 Challenge and provide assistance to design firms that have adopted this challenge.

In the U.S., buildings account for 39% of total energy use and 38% of carbon dioxide emissions. There is widespread interest in reducing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, as well as a concern for meeting the energy needs of the U.S. while reducing reliance on fossil fuels from foreign sources.

Design professionals are in a good position to change our condition by designing buildings that reduce loads, increase efficiency, and use renewable energy. In addition, design professionals are in a position to influence the development of sustainable communities, planned around principles of increased density, reduced dependence on the automobile, and resource conservation.

We work with design firms to develop their processes and skills that enable them to design energy-efficient, sustainable buildings. This begins with a vision that embraces sustainable principles and an integrated design approach.

An integrated design team includes the client, architect, engineering disciplines, builder, agencies and all who are stakeholders in the project. An integrated design process searches for synergies in the project between climate, building use, loads and systems to arrive at low-energy, high performance buildings.

"Through our relationship with the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance’s Better Bricks program, Cameron MacAllister has brought inspiration and helped enable NBBJ to achieve our sustainability goals related to energy efficiency. They brought a comprehensive menu of services, which allowed us to select services relevant to our needs. This relationship has exceeded my expectations."
